Terrific Interest In Calgary
The New Year has brought an exciting first for WIMCanada- the first ever networking event held in Calgary, AB at a private car collection facility. Approximately 80 women attended the networking event, which was a community effort by WIMCanada and motivated women who volunteered in an effort to show local girls and women the opportunities in STEM, and motorsport which are open to them.
University of Calgary Solar Car team brought their solar car out along with 7 engineering students, including Justine Lohmann, one of the drivers who competed in the 2022 Formula Solar Grand Prix. The University of Calgary Formula SAE team brought their training simulator (which is installed inside a previous version of their racing chassis), along with 5 engineering students who are currently developing the car in preparation for the annual FSAE competition in Michigan.
WIMCanada’s first ever networking event was a fantastic gathering of around 80 women from all areas of motorsport around the Calgary area. It was inspiring to meet so many accomplished women, I’m so honoured to be part of this community!- Leanne Junnila Founder, WIMCanada
Of special interest were 3 generations the Coutts family of Calgary: Rick, grandfather who started racing, his daughter Katherine who is a BMW Performance Driving Instructor, and her daughters, the future 3rd generation of racers.
There were also drivers from several disciplines, club presidents (CSCC and Club VeeDub), club executive members, autobody techs, motorsport volunteers, two branding professionals, motorcycle instructors and families interested in exposing their daughters to motorsport.
